Training, Experience, & Philosophy of Care
Mark A. Schrumpf, M.D. is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who grew up in Marin County in the Bay Area. He completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University and graduated with Honors. He earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California, where he became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society.
Dr. Schrumpf completed his orthopedic residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. During his training he focused on reconstructive care of the upper extremity and participated in clinical and research efforts involving the shoulder and elbow. He continued his subspecialty education through a fellowship at the San Francisco Shoulder, Elbow and Hand Clinic.
His practice includes care for upper extremity fractures and a full range of shoulder and elbow procedures. These areas include arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability repair, total shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, treatment for tennis elbow, and evaluation and management of fractures and dislocations affecting the shoulder, elbow and acromioclavicular joint. His work also involves surgical management of arthritis of the shoulder and the treatment of both acute and chronic tendon injuries. He has participated in device design for nearly a decade in connection with his clinical interests.
Dr. Schrumpf has contributed to the field through published work and manuscript review for The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, and The Journal of the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society.
His practice offers an ASES-approved fellowship program that provides advanced training in shoulder and elbow surgery. The program includes education in reconstructive procedures, fracture care, and tendon related conditions, along with information on requirements and the application process.
